ABCD Parent Ambassador Initiative

ABCD worked with a core group of 25 parents to be the first class of ABCD Parent Ambassadors. These Ambassadors joined staff to represent ABCD at meetings with school districts, health providers, legislators, and other stakeholders on the local, NYS, and National level.

 

Superate y Triunfa Mobile Computer Training Unit

ABCD parents enhanced their computer literacy skills during workshops held in a specially equipped mobile classroom.

 

Sleep Health Literacy

ABCD families developed a deeper understanding of the direct correlation between the amount and quality of sleep and health, school readiness, and family success.

 

College Launch Initiative

ABCD established a network of community leaders, organizers, and local college and university administrators who could provide support and information to promote college access – further preparing ABCD children and families for long term success.

Sister Schools Initiative

ABCD highlighted the importance of binational relationships. ABCD (New York), Guarderia San Miguel (GSM – Mexico City), and Ecole Francaise d’Alembert et Diderot (EFAD – Mexico City) coordinated virtual classroom experiences and activities. The initiative created an avenue to exchange ideas and cultural experiences in the early childhood education world of 2 countries by establishing channels of communication between sister schools.

 

Mental Health Research and Planning Initiative

ABCD was awarded a grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation to conduct a Mental Health Research and Planning Initiative. The project's purpose was to research family and staff mental health and wellness needs, assess available services, identify barriers to accessing mental health care, and suggest ways to overcome the challenges.

 

The Qualitas of Life Financial Literacy Training

ABCD partnered with the Qualitas of Life Foundation to support family and staff financial training opportunities, planning and stability. 

 

The Family Literacy Project

ABCD enhances language and literacy development by providing supportive materials and guidance to encourage parents and caregivers to read at home with their children.

 

Early Sprouts Curriculum Implementation

ABCD encourages preschoolers to eat more vegetables by growing, harvesting, and preparing their own organically grown foods.

 

Trauma Informed Practices

ABCD works to mitigate the traumatic effects of chronic stress on children, families, and staff by utilizing trauma-informed practices within classrooms and by expanding partnerships with local mental health consultants and provider agencies.
